Large Animated Mountain Landscape with Architecture from the early 1700s. The painting in question has a strong landscape impact and an excellent compositional balance, as it sees at the center the luminous perspective of a fortified town whose lateral wings are made up of two mountains with dense and dark forest vegetation within which paths, characters and waterways wind.
In particular, on the left side, with respect to the observer, a path winds along a stream that flows into a waterfall in the center of the composition, crossed by a caravan of travelers on foot and on horseback who travel along it in both directions: going up the on the mountainous coast you can glimpse a church and near the top a town framed by conifers.
The particularly lively and lush left side is contrasted with the right side which has sparser and drier vegetation, painted in ochre-coloured tones, within which dead plants, dry branches and a small number of figures stand out on the rugged mountain. The synthesis of this forest representation seems to be in the large trunk of the dried conifer in a central position, which represents a dead tree, as a warning to the transience of everything, of life, whose phases are summarized in the two mountainous coasts.
In the background there is the detail of a town on the horizon, the glimpse of a landscape with architecture well lit by the use of light and soft blue colours, which, in stark contrast with the previous scene, seems to want to reassure us and project us into a season future.
This monumental landscape of the Venetian school from the first decades of the 1700s is painted in oil on canvas, with an evocative theatrical effect, it is more than 253 cm wide and 178 cm high, without a frame, it comes from a private Milanese collection, it has been lined and presents in good state of conservation, with pictorial retouches corresponding to the horizontal seam of the canvas.
